Charleroi has had a turbulent season and is now looking for a new coach. After Rik De Mil's departure to AA Gent and the brief tenure of assistant Hans Cornelis, who was fired in April after a streak of ten winless matches, the club at Mambourg is busy finding a successor. Preparation for the new season is just around the corner, and a decision needs to be made quickly. According to transfer watcher Sacha Tavolieri, Mario Kohnen, who previously served as an assistant, is the frontrunner for the head coach position. Kohnen, who started as an assistant at Charleroi in 2025, has no prior experience as a head coach but impressed during the playoffs after Cornelis's dismissal, achieving a strong 17 out of 27 points. This week, final discussions are expected to take place, and it seems Kohnen will soon sign his contract. Charleroi hopes this choice will lead to a fresh start for the upcoming season.
